19,600 youngsters have become agents of the Recycling Patrol!

More than 19,600 young people and 650 schools from Bucharest and 25 counties registered for the  2012 – 2013 edition of the Recycling Patrol, a national program of environmental education, focused on collection and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment, developed by the Romanian Recycling Association in partnership with local authorities and county boards of education.

The counties where 30 (the maximum allowed) schools have registered are: Botoșani, Constanta, Iași, Olt, Suceava and Timiș. The registration status in the other counties is the following: Bucharest and Ilfov (39), Gorj (29), Teleorman (29), Călărași (27), Brașov (26), Dolj (24), Vrancea (24), Harghita (23), Giurgiu (23), Bistrița-Năsăud (22), Prahova (22), Argeș (20), Sibiu (19), Tulcea (19), Hunedoara (18), Vâlcea (18), Caraș-Severin (14), Dâmbovița (13), Mehedinți (13), Sălaj (9).

Under the supervision of the coordinating teachers, one in each participating school, the students will raise awareness and educate their families, friends and neighbors on the WEEE risks and their negative impact upon the environment and will encourage a responsible eco-friendly attitude. 

The coordinating teachers and the agents of the Recycling Patrol will receive from the Romanian Recycling Association the materials that will underpin their activity: the program implementation guide, the educational brochures, informative flyers and posters. Moreover, RoRec Association will install in all participating schools, WEEE collection kits for three WEEE categories: small household appliances, bulbs/fluorescent lamps and batteries/accumulators. 

Every Recycling Patrol agent has the responsibility of collecting at least 4 WEEE kg DEEE until May 15 2013. At the end, the organizers will evaluate the activities and reported projects and will award prizes  at local and national levels for the most active coordinating teachers, the patrols that will collect the largest amount of WEEE and the best idea for the Patrol’s mascot.

The Recycling patrol calls up thousands of youngsters in the country to become role models and ambassadors of a responsible environmental behavior message and to contribute to the European collection target of 4 kg WEEE/inhabitant/year
