About us

The Romanian Association for Recycling - RoRec is a non-profit organisation, set up by ten of the best-known European home appliances manufacturers operating in Romania: Amica, Arctic, Bosch Siemens Electrocasnice, Candy Hoover, Electrolux, Gorenje, Indesit, Philips, Groupe SEB and Whirlpool.

From the very beginning of its activities, the RoRec Association became member of the WEEE Forum (http://www.weee-forum.org), the pan-European organisation of non-profit collective systems of management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

Our Aims

According to EU legislation, the manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) are directly responsible for their products, even when these reach the end of their life cycle, becoming waste. The legislation makes it compulsory for the producers to take care of the waste resulting from their products, making sure that they are disposed of in a non-polluting manner, aiming to protect the environment, as well as to recycle and reintroduce in the technological processes all those materials that can be re-used.

The RoRec Association was created in order to take over from producers the responsibility regarding the targets set for collection, re-use, recycling, and recovery of the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), as well as reporting activities for WEEE management to the competent authorities.

The RoRec Association was licensed in 2007 according to the provisions of the Ministry Ordinance 1225/2005 and of the EU Directive 96/2002 and the Government Decision 448/2005.

At present, the RoRec Association has contracts with over 240 producers and distributors, including the association’s founding members.

The RoRec Association’s Activities

The activity of the RoRec Association is based on excellent co-operation with all the parties involved in the recycling process: equipment producers, local authorities, distributors, meaning electrical and electronic equipment shops, collectors and recyclers.

The RoRec Association’s activities include:

  • Taking over the producers’ responsibility for the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment, on the basis of a contract;
  • Organising the WEEE transfer to the recovery and recycling plants, aiming to fulfil the performance indicators set by the European legislation currently in force;
  • Identifying and applying the most environmentally and economically efficient and sustainable solutions for the WEEE management processes (treatment, recovery, recycling, to non-polluting disposal);
  • Issuing and sending the periodical reports regarding the WEEE management activities to the environment authorities, in compliance with the legislation in force, on behalf of those producers who have responsibility transfer contracts;
  • Running consumer information and awareness raising campaigns about WEEE management.
