We collected an average of 25 kilos of WEEE per person
In just two days, over 12 tons of waste from electric and electronic equipment has been collected in Deva, in the „The waste doesn’t belong at home. Take it for a hike!” campaign, ran between September 10-11 by the RoRec Association, together with the Deva municipality and the support of METRO and Carpatcement groups.
The action was part of an ample environmental campaign, ran in the area serviced by the Hunedoara RoRec Drop off Center, organized by RoRec in partnership with Hunedoara Municipality. The success of this action is owed also to the 45 volunteers who, together with the organizers, have helped distribute flyers, place posters, and spread campaign-related information and fill-in raffle tickets.
The campaign started on September 9th, with a press conference held by the organizers, attended by Mayor Mircia Muntean, who has stated that „we are living in a time when mankind’s development destroys ecosystems, affects the climate and leaves strong marks on the planet’s fair face. It is the time to stop, for a minute, from our everyday rush and give a thought to the kind of world we are leaving the future generations with. Even one step, as small as it may be, in this direction can mean a lot for our children’s future.”
The next day, on September 10th, temporary drop off points were opened in front of the „Drăgan Muntean” Cultural House and in the Deva Hotel’s parking lot. The action lasted two days and managed to have 12,400 kilograms of WEEE collected.
Nearly 500 locals from Deva have brought WEEE to the two temporary collecting points, receiving tickets for the raffle offering 55 prizes - 50 x 100 lei vouchers and five DHS bicycles, offered by the organizers. The vouchers could be used for purchasing any kind of Finlux household appliance (refrigerator, freezer, washing machine, dishwashing machine) in the Metro store in Deva, September 13th-October 15th, 2010.
As part of this action, RoRec has established several temporary drop off points, in Sântuhalm, Cristur, Bârcea Mică and Archia.
