RoRec Projects
The RoRec network for the collection of batteries and portable accumulators reached 632 locations
At the beginning of the year, Tuborg Romania became the first partner in the battery and portable accumulator collection network, launched by the RoRec Association; currently, we have 70 collection containers installed in over 30 partner companies’ premises, and we would like to thank all for their support.
The RoRec Association developed a simple collection system, without implementation costs for the partners, and with the possibility to promote the image of the involved companies in an educational project. Our initiative is an answer to the trend of having increasingly more and more companies involved in social responsibility projects.
The mechanism of the project is very simple: each partner company receives a “battery collection kit”, which consists of a cardboard container and a set of informative materials, both for the internal and external communication, in order to promote the project. The partner company effort is minimal and only implies a campaign participation agreement, the information of the team and an invitation addressed to the employees in order to get involved in the collection action.
“The employees from the headquarters of Lafarge Companies in Romania joined the initiative of the Romanian Recycling Association – RoRec of collecting used batteries with enthusiasm, because we have to continue the internal project started in 2008 and named Our Headquarters – SAFE & GREEN. This project aims to promote and encourage environmentally responsible behavior for resources protection, materials reusing and waste collection for recycling. We would like to thank our partners from the RoRec Association for their logistic support, both for our Bucharest headquarters and in our cement factories, and we hope that our involvement will be visible and substantial, not only effectively, through the number of batteries collected, but especially through its educational value”, declared Nona Henti, LaFarge Romania.
Any company who become partner of the project, in addition to offering a useful service to its employees, is actively contributing to their education and information in the field of environmental protection. Also it serves as an opportunity to become a model for other companies and proves that care for resources and environmental education is an actual interest of modern organizations.
Currently, in MOL gas stations 125 battery collection containers are installed, subsequent to the partnership signed with Varta Rayovac Remington. “We are happy to be part of a project so useful to the future of the environment and we are happy that you supported us with all the logistics necessary for the implementation of this battery collection system in the MOL chain of shops and gas stations network, both in Bucharest and throughout the country”, declared Brandusa Oanca, Varta Rayovac Remington SRL.
Other 53 containers are placed in office buildings in Bucharest and in different institutions and organizations in the country.
The most recent partnership agreement was signed with the Timisoara Municipality at the end of November. “The collaboration between RoRec and Timisoara City Hall aims to improve the quality of the urban environment, in order to protect the community environment and the health of the population. Thus, the citizens of Timisoara should become aware of the role they play in the environment protection area and to become more responsible. It is important to understand the importance of used batteries collection and to avoid throwing them in their trash bins and further in landfills. We would like to invite the citizens of Timisoara to collect used batteries and bring them to the collection points situated in the headquarters of the Timisoara Municipality!”, declared Mr. Adrian Orza, Deputy Mayor, in his press release referring to the collaboration between our association and Timisoara Municipality.
Other 251 containers can be found in Altex, Ambient, Baumax, Flanco, Gmarket, Media Galaxy, Obi, Praktiker and Real networks, throughout the country. Collection containers in 52 locations in the Carrefour network and 67 locations in the PROFI chain are currently being installed.
In the Bricostore retail network, a new concept for the collection of batteries, small WEEE and different lightning equipments was implemented for the first time in 14 locations: The Eco Area is an area dedicated to Bricostore customers’ education and information activities in the respect of selective WEEE collection.
Thus, the year 2010 ends with a network of battery and portable accumulators network of 632 collection points, thus exceeding our plan of installing 500 containers until the end of 2010.
