RoRec Projects
The RoRec Association has started on a regional awareness-raising tour dedicated to local authorities
The RoRec Association is the official partner of a series of conferences entitled ‘Solutions for local administrations in the context of the economic crisis’, organised by BTL Design in partnership with the Romanian Federation of Local Authorities, the Romanian Municipalities Association and the Association of Romanian Towns.
Up to now, there have been three conferences, in Cluj Napoca (18 March), Bacău (29 April) and Timişoara (27 May), to be followed by the last symposium of the series, in Ploieşti, at the end of June.
Throughout the talks, the RoRec Association representatives have underlined the importance of teaching the citizens to preserve a clean environment, and have presented to the local authorities that were present at the conferences the ‘Partnership project for the launch of WEEE drop-off centres – RoRec’, a public service at European level offered to local communities in Romania.
Our colleagues explained to the listeners that the partnership between town halls and RoRec is based on the agreement that the town hall signing the protocol should make available a location dedicated to WEEE collection, which becomes from the very beginning an interaction platform for environment-related topics between the authorities and the members of the community.
Andreea Idriceanu Calev, RoRec communication manager, described the communication campaigns which have accompanied so far the launching of the partnerships with the town halls. She also presented details of the project and mentioned that 300 square meters are sufficient to build a WEEE drop-off centre at European standards.
‘One of the fundamental and constant concerns of the Romanian Association for Recycling is to inform the consumer about the waste electrical and electronic equipment’s harmful effects on the environment, as well as to raise awareness to the rational use of resources, as WEEE is a source of secondary raw material,’ explained Florin Popa, drop-off centres project manager within the Romanian Association for Recycling RoRec.
Local authorities have shown interest in this project, and up to now more than 50 mayors or town hall representatives who were present at the conferences have requested detailed talks in order to launch long-term collaborations.
