Targoviste joins RoRec in their effort to promote electrical waste recycling
The Town Hall of the Municipality of Târgovişte and the RoRec Association launched on 22 April the ‘Invitation to Recycling’ campaign. Târgovişte is the association’s most recent partner in the effort to promote WEEE recycling.
The campaign was launched on 22 April, Earth Day, at a press conference where the Târgovişte Town Hall and RoRec representatives presented the ‘Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Drop-off Centre’ project, which promotes WEEE collection actions as well as volunteer greening activities.
Târgovişte joined another 14 local authorities working in partnership with RoRec. The association intends to extend its collection network to over 100 local communities by 2011.
‘WEEE Drop-off Centres came up as a natural necessity in the recycling process, being the missing link between the owner of the waste equipment, i.e. the citizen, and the recycler. Taking into account Romania’s national collection targets as EU Member State, as well as the fact that town halls have by law prerogatives when it comes to the collection of various types of waste, including waste electrical and electronic equipment, we decided to support the local authorities’ activities, helping them collect waste according to European standards’, said Liviu Popeneciu, President of RoRec.
The ‘WEEE Drop-off Centre in partnership with the town hall’ project was launched on 22 April, Earth Day, a significant date for the international ecological movement which started in the United States of America in the 1970s and has now reached world-wide dimensions. The ecologists’ celebration was the chosen topic for the drawing competition for children and teenagers, which was launched as part of the campaign.
At the same time, a temporary Drop-off Centre was set up in Parcul Chindiei for two days. About 120 people handed over more than 125 items of waste EEE and participated at a raffle. On Friday, before the Analia Selis concert, the organisers announced the winners of the home appliances offered by Albatros as raffle prizes.
