Season 2010 of campaign Your home is not the home for waste. Send it walking! is over and had great success
November was a "tour de force" in the mini-waste collection campaign organized by the RoRec Association. In Timis, Prahova, Caras Severin, Ialomita, Iasi, Ilfov and Hunedoara counties, 14 collection actions were unfolded.
In collaboration with the Timisoara Municipality, the RoRec Association developed an event throughout the whole city, in 18 temporary drop-off points and by home collection service. The action was promoted through a communication campaign in the local media and with the help of schools in Timisoara which, as the representatives of local authorities declared, “were involved whole-heartedly in the action”. Over 700 citizens of Timisoara brought WEEE at the temporary drop-off points: electrical equipment and domestic appliances, so that, in just a four hours, in a cold weather worthy of a late autumn, the quantity of old electrical equipment collected exceeded any expectations: 14,270 kilos, as the weighing bill, signed by Green WEEE recycling company in Buzau, shows.
“This manifestation reached its declared purpose, that of informing and making the population of Timisoara aware of things, involving the citizens actively in the campaign, since population is the greatest generator of electric and electronic waste. The citizens of Timisoara proved once more their civic spirit and an eco attitude", declared Mr. Adrian Orza, the Deputy Mayor of Timisoara. “The results of the campaign, the positive attitude of the volunteers and the call center orders made by the citizens who participated in this action determined the organizers to plan similar events in 2011”, the official concluded.
Also in Timis, on November 13th, two collection actions took place, on the route of Sacalaz, Sannicolau Mare, Bazos, Beba Veche, Belint, Cenad, Chizatau, Dudestii Vechi, Ghiroda, Giarmata Vii, Herneacova, Izvin, Recas and Remetea Mare. Subsequent to the two actions, the quantity collected was 10,618 kilograms Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), in accordance to the weighing note received from the recycling company.
In Resita and nearby villages, over 250 citizens brought to the drop-off points 6,450 kilograms of WEEE. Together with the volunteers of the Technical Highschool of Resita (students and teachers), the teams of RoRec Association, of the Resita Municipality, of Prescom SA and of local NGOs managed the 19 collection points installed for this action.
In total, from the two counties in Banat region where we implemented collection actions, we collected over 31,000 kilos of WEEE within the two weekends dedicated to the actions.
The last three actions, that took place in Hunedoara County, were organized around the drop off centers from Hunedoara and Brad. Thus, 26.238 kilos of WEEE were collected in Brad, surrounding villages and Vulcan, Petrosani and Petrila, from over 1,200 people.
In Ilfov County, two campaigns took place in the area served by Voluntari and Ciolpani drop off centers. 6.161 kilos of WEEE were collected from more than 400 participants.
Subsequent to the actions in Iasi (together with the Holboca Town Hall), Ialomita (in partnership with Calarasi Town Hall) and Prahova (in partnership with Barcanesti and Baicoi Municipalities), 14.708 kilos of WEEE were collected from more than 950 citizens.
The partners of the actions organized in November were the members of our associations, Albatros, Black&Decker and Philips Romania companies, the prizes offered by them bringing joy to the participants in the actions.
In total, subsequent to the November campaign, over 94,000 kilos of WEEE were collected; this means approximately 8000 old equipments that are now being recycled, according to European environmental standards.
