RoRec has „picked up” over 15 tons of WEEE in the land between the Tarnaves and has set a new record: the most numerous deponents participating, so far, in a collecting action

RoRec, the Romanian Association for Recycling, has continued its WEEE collecting actions in the Alba County, in a specific mid-September context: the tenth edition of the “Golden Grape” National Folklore Festival. RoRec has partnered with the Alba Iulia Municipality, the Alba County Council, the Jidvei Municipality and Jidvei Company, as well as RoRec’s member, Arctic.

The collection campaign was implemented in eight locations. In Alba Iulia, the collection activities took place in a temporary drop off point set up at Platoul Romanilor, whilst in the rest of the locations - Jidvei, Bălcaciu, Căpâlna de Jos, Feisa, Veseuș, Șona and Cetatea de Baltă – in temporary collection points set up in front of the town halls. The more than 800 deponents and over 900 items collected stand for a new county record.

„The RoRec Association gets involved in the life of local communities, by supporting heart-felt activities for the locals. The „Golden Grape Festival” makes the Alba county and Jidvei proud, whilst the good wine that made the county famous needs a clean environment. Our campaign is, in fact, the first step in a set of environmental projects we are planning, together with the local authorities, for the benefit of all the communities in the area”, said Andreea Idriceanu, communication manager of the RoRec Association.

During the „Golden Grape” National Folklore Festival, the RoRec volunteers have engaged in an intensive awareness campaign focusing on the possible detrimental effects of WEEE, offering bio-degradable bags to the audience, so as to help keep the festival location clean. During the two days of the campaign, locals have brought to RoRec’s eight drop off locations over 15 tons of WEEE; those who brought their WEEE to the collecting points have received tickets for a raffle with prizes offered by Arctic, namely 20 modern refrigerators.

„I am glad to see this campaign, initiated together with our partners– the RoRec Association and the Jidvei Company- have such success with the county’s population. It is true that the context has been extremely favorable, but we can only appreciate the quick reactions of all the locals which have understood the message sent by this campaign. The quantity of electric waste we have managed to collect is beyond any expectations. I am convinced that the prizes have brought true joy to the lucky winners. We will keep organizing, together with RoRec, such actions; in fact, we are working on setting up a permanent partnership between the municipality and this association”, stated Mr. Mircea Hava, Mayor of Alba Iulia.

The success of this campaign also owes a lot to the volunteers from the Volunteering Centre of the Alba County, under the coordination of Rev. Florin Croitoru, as well as to the students of the Jidvei primary school, coordinated by Prof. Carmen Stan.
