From the very young (3 year-olds) to the very senior (86 year-olds), the people from Bistrita have gathered over 3,500 kilos of WEEE in less than 3 days

If this were the Middle Age, the chronicler would have written something like: “The green-blue flags of the House of RoRec gloriously waved over the tent erected in the medieval camp of Bistrita, a stronghold at the very edge of the kingdom, to the fame of their prime creed, the tidiness of the county.”

But as the respectable gathering of the knights and ladies took place in the year of our Lord 2010, August 13th to 15th, thus in our days, the minstrels sing in the contemporary “parlance“.

The RoRec Association has gotten actively and directly involved in the 3 - day Medieval Camp in Bistrita, collecting WEEE. “We’ve joined this event to continue the actions of informing and increasing the public awareness in respect to protecting the area hosting the Medieval Camp. The idea is to help the participants properly dispose of their trash, by means of the dedicated places set up all around the respective area”, said Andreea Idriceanu, communication manager with the RoRec Association.

“We’ve been there for the entire duration of the Camp, helping participants preserve the Bistrita heritage. If we are to not forget our roots, we need to preserve our values and traditions. We already have a partnership with the Municipality of Bistrita, in the form of the WEEE drop off centre, and we hold as equally important our involvement in activities of informing and raising awareness, so as to make sure we all remember that the environment is, in itself, a value we need to protect. Even more so in an area such as Bistrita, where people are diligent and know how to respect their values”, Mr. Liviu Popeneciu, President of the RoRec Association, said.

On this occasion, RoRec Association, with the support of the Municipality of Bistrita, set up 2 temporary locations for WEEE collection in downtown Bistrita and another one near the Medieval Camp. 25 volunteers bore the ecologist message and actively contributed to the collection of over 380 various appliances, amounting to more than 3,500 kilos of WEEE. The 330 people of Bistrita who took part in the WEEE collection activity, aged between 3 and 86 years, turned up their electric and electronic waste at the collection points, then participated in a tombola with 50 prizes: 5 Whirlpool washing machines and 45 shopping vouchers worth 150 lei, to be used in the Flanco store in Bistrita for the purchase of any new Whirlpool item. Thus, Whirlpool became the first RoRec member to implement the “shopping tichets” system in the collection campaigns.

The action also had activities dedicated to inform and raise awareness among the Medieval Camp participants, related to environmental protection. We have made available, for the 2,000 locals and tourists entering every day the world of knights, ladies, archers and gunners, plastic bags to collect the trash in, so as not to leave it behind. The great surprise was that, after the event had ended, the 2+ hectares where the event took place were pristine. This was made possible by the involvement of the Bioplastic Association, our partner.

Sincere congratulations to all those who truly wished to be “knights and ladies” and have been careful enough to keep clean the Medieval Camp of Heidenfeld- Bistriţa!
