The City Hall of district 6, partner of the Romanian Recycling Association RoRec, relaunched a waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collection campaign in October. The citizens of district 6 could bring WEEE every week-end and the collected quantity reached 17.88 tons.

Throughout the four days of collection under the „Waste doesn’t belong at home. Take it for a hike!” campaign conducted this October, 777 citizens chose to responsibly dispose of this type of waste. All participating citizens were enlisted for the final raffle with prizes consisting of home appliances offered by Hotpoint, acting as partner.

The 12 happy winners of the grand raffle from October 24th were rewarded with a Hotpoint refrigerator, washing machine or cooking stove and Hotpoint promotional gifts.

During these four weeks, starting with the weekend of October 1st, the collecting teams also assisted the citizens of district 6 for the free disposal of WEEE from their homes.

The partnership between the RoRec Association and the City Hall of district 6 is even more relevant as the annual collection target set by the European Union for its member states is 4 kg/capita and Romania’s collection rate has been only 1.0-1.5 kilograms/capita over the past several years.

The selective collection eliminates the risks of certain toxic components from this equipment – such as heavy metals of hazardous gases –getting into air, soil or water and polluting the environment. A correct recycling can also help obtain secondary raw materials, thus preserving the natural resources.
