RoRec launches the zonal WEEE drop-off centre concept
The last in the series of conferences entitled ‘Solutions for local administrations in the context of the economic crisis’, organised by BTL Design in partnership with the Romanian Federation of Local Authorities, the Romanian Municipalities Association and the Association of Romanian Towns, took place at the end of June.
More than 400 representatives of local authorities were present at the four conferences organised in Bacau, Cluj, Ploiesti and Timisoara.
‘We are here to promote a solution that starts from the word partnership, as we are transposing in Romania a system that already works in Europe. We come with a proposal that will cost nothing and yet it will provide a service to your community and will make the citizens see that you stand by them, solving some of their problems,’ said the president of RoRec at the final conference.
This series of meetings has been an excellent opportunity for RoRec to present the ‘WEEE drop-off centres in partnership with the townhalls’ project to the mayors and representatives of local authorities.
‘Our role is to offer concrete support to the municipalities, based on RoRec’s experience with collection and delivery for recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment,’ said Florin Popa, RoRec drop-off centres manager.
Local authorities have been confronted for years with the major problem of waste management. One of the mayors present at these meetings, Mr. Dănuţ Groza, Mayor of Sânnicolau Mare, Timis county, stated that ‘the waste issue has become a national sport, we need to find solutions very quickly, and I must admit that many mayors are still confronted with this problem.’
Actually, it was the mayors of small and medium-size towns that proved most concerned for the cleanliness in their towns, so at the end of the seminar concrete collaborations were pencilled, aiming to create WEEE drop-off centres on the basis of a new concept: a zonal centre that would cover a large town and the neighbouring area, but which would be set outside the respective town.
