The Romanian Recycling Association – RoRec and the City Hall of district 4, together with their partner Bosch, continue the collection activities under the pilot-project initiated in June. The proximity to the citizens of district 4 through the fixed and mobile collection points highlights the will of the people from Bucharest to send the obsolete or defective equipment straight to the recycling plants, according to the European standards. Ten sets of prizes will be offered to the citizens of Bucharest who collected responsibly during the first month of the campaign.

3,250 kilograms of WEEE were collected during the first three weekends of the project conducted in collaboration with the City Hall of district 4. More than a hundred citizens dropped off waste at the fixed collection points or at the mobile teams and ten of them will be rewarded on July 14th, when the first monthly raffle of this campaign will take place, offering sets of prizes (washing machine and iron) offered by our partner Bosch.

The pilot-project from district 4, launched on June 18th, is carried out over a 12-week period. Thus, the sector was split into 12 areas, covered by the collection teams based on a schedule announced weekly in the area where the activity will take place. Every Saturday, the collection area features two fixed points, as well as mobile teams that cover the established routes. The RoRec teams can also be asked to do free pick-ups of heavy or large equipment from homes.
This weekend, the mobile teams will cover the area between Soseaua Berceni – Cercetatorilor – Sergent Iriceanu Ioan street, while the fixed collection points will be located at Piata Sudului (the parking lot in front of the Farmers Market) and Aparatorii Patriei Market.

Details about the activity or the free pick-ups of heavy or large waste equipment from home are available by calling one of the phone numbers at the call-center that will be operational throughout the project. Participants can call the landline number 021.232.7182 Monday through Friday, between 10:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m. and the mobile number 0744.339936 Monday through Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m..

The citizens of district 4 who decide to dispose of this waste responsibly will be rewarded with prizes consisting of 30 sets of Bosch household appliances made of a washing machine and an iron. In every of the three monthly raffles, Bosch Siemens Electrocasnice – founding member of the RoRec Association – will offer 10 sets of prizes that can be won in a raffle by those who brought WEEE during one month of the campaign.

The selective collection helps eliminate the risk of certain toxic components – such as heavy metals or hazardous gas – from this equipment getting in the air, soil or water and polluting the environment. Correct recycling also helps obtain secondary raw materials, thus protecting natural resources. The partnership between the RoRec Association and the City Hall of district 4 is all the more important as the collection target set by the European Union for its member states is 4 kg/capita per year and Romania had a collection rate of only 1.0-1.5 kilograms/capita over these past years.
